Yahoo Finance Your first look at the Friends reunion trailer
It’s been 25 years since Friends came to an end – but it looks like the show was just on a break... The One Where They Get Back Together is officially happening, and we've just been treated to our first glimpse of the trailer (watch above).
All six of the show's stars took to social media to share a teaser preview of the show, which will see them appearing as themselves - not in character - to discuss the impact of the enduringly popular sitcom. The trailer shows the six actors walking arm in arm in slow motion away from the camera, as an acoustic version of the iconic theme tune plays in the background.
"This kind of thing doesn't happen every year, or even every 10 or 15 years," Courteney Cox wrote on Instagram. "I feel so blessed to have had the chance to reunite with my Friends... and it was better than ever."
Jennifer Aniston confirmed the release date of the show, writing: "It’s official! The #FriendsReunion premieres May 27th on @HBOMax — could we BE any more excited?!"
HBO confirmed in a statement back in 2020 that the series’ original cast will reunite for a one-off special to stream on HBO Max. The special was originally scheduled to be filmed in the early spring and released in May 2020, the same month the new streaming platform was set to launch.
However, the filming was repeatedly pushed back to the coronavirus pandemic. The producers and cast were set on filming in front of a live audience - as they used to do with the show - and wanted to wait until they could do so safely.

All six stars of the beloved hit sitcom, which aired for 10 seasons between 1994 and 2004, will return for the special. It will also feature famous fans of the show, including David Beckham, Mindy Kaling, Kit Harington, Justin Bieber and Cindy Crawford. Reese Witherspoon and Tom Selleck, who famously had guest roles in the series, will also appear.
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer will also work as executive producers alongside the creators of the original hit series, David Crane, Marta Kauffman and Kevin Bright.
All six of the original stars originally announced news of the reunion on Instagram with a throwback picture and just two words: “It’s happening.”
Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter, saying: “Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together.”
Reilly continued: “I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers, generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”
Rumours of a potential reunion had been simmering since 2019, when Aniston hinted that something might be in the works. During an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show, Aniston said: “We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”
Friends: The Reunion will air on HBO Max on 27th May. A UK streaming service has not yet been confirmed.
