A fitness centre startup that was co-founded by footballer Gareth Bale, has agreed a deal to open a new branch close to Liverpool Street station.

Rowbots will take around 2700 square feet on the ground floor at the Broadgate Quarter, a office-led development owned by private equity group Blackstone.

The first Rowbots boutique gym opened in 2019 in Fitzrovia, and the team built classes around state-of-the-art rowers and floor exercises.

The second branch is expected to open on May 17.

Sam Green, chief executive of Rowbots, said: “After several months of searching for the ideal site for our second studio, we felt Broadgate Quarter was the perfect fit.”

Ed Hodgson, managing director at Revantage Europe, which manages Broadgate Quarter and is owned by Blackstone, said: “We’re really pleased to welcome yet another innovative, exciting leisure offering to our increasingly diverse and vibrant business and leisure community at Broadgate Quarter.”

Other operators at the development include Junkyard Golf Club.

The leisure and hospitality sectors have had a very tough year due to Covid-19 lockdowns, and businesses are hoping footfall in city centres will improve as restrictions ease.
