(PA)A five-month-old boy was killed after a van collided with a car and veered into the infant's pram.
The incident which took place on Friday afternoon left the child's mother, Rachel Thorold, fighting for life in hospital.
The 36-year-old was pushing her son, Louis, on a pavement when they were both struck by a Renault Master van that had come off the road.
The van had crashed with a Mazda 2 before veering into the mother and baby at 3.50pm on the A10, Ely Road in Waterbeach.
Police said the child was killed and Ms Thorold was left in a critical but stable condition at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
Investigators are now appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision or moments leading up to it.
Detective Sergeant Mark Dollard, from Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s Road Policing Unit, said: "This is an extremely tragic and sad incident and our deepest condolences go out to the family of Louis, who are being supported by a specially-trained officer.
"A thorough investigation will now be conducted by my team and I am seeking help from the public.
"While it is too early to say how the collision happened, I want to remind all road users of their responsibilities to drive with care."
