Former Cinecittà Studios CEO Nicola Maccanico Appointed Head of Fremantle Italy

Former Cinecittà Studios CEO Nicola Maccanico has been appointed to the newly created role of CEO of Fremantle Italy Group.

Maccanico, who is a former Warner Bros. and Sky Italia senior exec, had been spearheading the radical overhaul of Cinecittà for three years, but stepped down last June after Italy’s right-wing government decided to change the studios’ management team.

He had been instrumental to relaunching the iconic filming facilities, which lured big shoots last year such as Roland Emmerich’s gladiator series “Those About to Die” starring Anthony Hopkins and Netflix’s period soap “The Decameron.”

Maccanico will now oversee Fremantle Italy’s wide-ranging Italian operations that comprise labels Wildside, The Apartment Pictures, Lux Vide and Fremantle Italy. Their respective CEO’ Sonia Rovai, Annamaria Morelli, Luca Bernabei and Marco Tombolini will report to him. Maccanico will also join Fremantle’s gobal leadership team, according to a statement.

In separate news, Fremantle France CEO Bruno Fallot has been promoted to oversee Fremantle’s production businesses in France, Spain, Portugal and Israel. Fallot “will lead on the strategy across these territories to continue to deliver standout content across all genres,” the statement said, adding that Fallot will also join Fremantle’s global leadership ranks.

In his role as head of Fremantle France since 2018, Fallot assembled a new team and continued to develop Fremantle France, “reinforcing its position as a key member in the French television industry,” the statement said.

Commented Andrea Scrosati, Fremantle’s group COO and CEO continental Europe: “I am excited to work with Nicola and Bruno to drive the business in Southern Europe forward as we continue to invest and grow our portfolio of Fremantle business and labels.”
