Former MLB pitcher Scott Erickson has been charged with a misdemeanor count of reckless driving in connection with a fatal hit and run in Westlake Village, California, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Erickson, 52, was reportedly involved in a race with a car driven by Rebecca Grossman moments before Grossman’s vehicle struck and killed two boys in a crosswalk on Sept. 29. Erickson was charged with reckless driving, and is due in court on March 16.

Grossman was charged with two felony counts of murder and vehicular manslaughter. She was also charged with a felony count of hit and run driving that resulted in death, according to The Los Angeles Daily News. Grossman, 57, could face up to 34 years to life in prison if convicted.

Grossman reportedly was driving at excessive speeds when she struck an 11-year-old and an 8-year-old. The older boy died at the scene. The younger boy was transported to a hospital, where he died. Grossman allegedly continued to drive her car another quarter mile before her engine gave out.

Erickson pitched for six different MLB teams over his 15-year career. He spent the majority of his career with the Baltimore Orioles and Minnesota Twins, putting up a career 4.59 ERA. His most successful season in the majors came in 1991, when he won a World Series with the Twins and finished second in the Cy Young voting after going 20-8 during the regular season.
