Yahoo Finance Former Vikings DE Everson Griffen apologizes for deleted tweets blasting Kirk Cousins
If Everson Griffen wants to return to the Minnesota Vikings, he has a funny way of showing it.
The former Vikings defensive end, who left the team in free agency last offseason, apologized after posting a series of tweets highly critical of Kirk Cousins on Saturday.
Specifically, Griffen said Cousins is “ass” and implied that head coach Mike Zimmer never wanted the quarterback. The tweets have since been deleted:

Griffen even went out of his way to deny the excuse that he was hacked in a tweet which is still up.
Hours later, Griffen was posting an apology to both Cousins and the Vikings.
I’m sorry for posting that about Kirk. It’s not right for me to call people out. I apologize for hurting him. I’m very grateful and thankful.

Before this season, Griffen had played his entire 10-year career with the Vikings, and remains in the top 10 of their all-time sacks list. He spent his last two years in Minnesota playing with Cousins under center.
Griffen opted out of his contract last spring and ended up signing a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, who later traded him to the Detroit Lions for a conditional sixth-round pick.
One might say those tweets were oddly timed given that Griffen had made it very clear over the last few days that he wanted to return to the team whose quarterback he just publicly insulted. On Thursday, Griffen posted a picture taken at a Vikings facility and said the following when asked by the St. Paul Pioneer Press about a return to the Vikings in free agency:
“You tell them, I said, ‘If you want it, go get it,’ ” Griffen said. “You can put that.”
We’ll see if the Vikings are as interested on their end.
