VW names former ZF CEO Sommer as new procurement chief

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Volkswagen on Monday named Stefan Sommer, former chief executive of automotive supplier ZF Friedrichshafen , as its procurement chief from Jan. 1, confirming earlier media reports.

Sommer, 55, will replace Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz, whose departure was announced in April.

A source familiar with the matter earlier told Reuters that the carmaker's supervisory board was set to decide the appointment at a meeting on Monday.

Sommer, an engineer by training who is specialised in automation, left ZF at the end of last year. He previously worked for companies including ITT Automotive and Continental.

Volkswagen has overhauled its management board in the wake of a diesel emissions cheating scandal.

Sommer's appointment means seven new executives have been named to the management board since the scandal erupted, while only two members were on the executive board before September 2015.
