Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has hailed the impact of Mason Mount after the midfielder fired the Blues to victory at 10-man Fulham on Saturday.

The 22-year-old finally broke the Cottagers’ resistance with 12 minutes remaining following Antonee Robinson’s red card in the first half and has been a key part of Lampard’s reign at Stamford Bridge so far, starting 17 of the team’s 18 Premier League games this season.

And Lampard believes Mount epitomises what he means when he mentions his side’s ‘youth’ and admits he is delivering earlier than he was able to during his own career.

"I thought his performance all round was fantastic. He's been very good for us, last year and this year," Lampard said following the victory at Craven Cottage.

"He's a big example of what I mean when I mention youth, he turned 22 last week. I came to Chelsea at 22 and wasn't blowing the world away in my first year or so, I was finding my feet, but Mason already has so many games under his belt.

“When you look across our front line, you've got Christian Pulisic, similar age bracket, Kai Havertz, similar age bracket, Callum Hudson-Odoi, younger age bracket, Tammy Abraham, Timo Werner, they are all young.”

After claiming three points, the Blues sit in seventh at the start of Sunday, but despite the boost, Lampard insists it will mean nothing unless they back it up against Leicester City on Tuesday.

“It feels good, it's not been easy with our league form recently, Fulham were in good form,” Lampard added. "Only if we back it up, it feels good tonight.

“We can't think everything is solved. We're in a bit of a transition, trying to find solutions. It's a good start, we go again on Tuesday.”
