Frasier is being revived for a new season
US TV series Frasier is officially back, after 16 years
The show, which originally ran for 11 seasons between 1993 and 2004, is set to be rebooted on US streaming service Paramount+, with Kelsey Grammer returning as psychiatrist Dr Frasier Crane.
The revival has been in the pipeline for a number of years, and the new series will be written by Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life in Pieces).
"Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I'd like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world," Grammer said. "I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr Frasier Crane."
CBS Studios president David Stapf added: "Frasier is one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling.
"There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris and Kelsey. We can't wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount+."
It's yet to be confirmed whether original cast members such as David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves and Peri Gilpin will return. John Mahoney, who played Frasier's dad Martin, sadly passed away in 2018.
Grammer has been teasing a reboot for quite a while, with the star saying in 2019 that they had a plan "hatched".
"We'll see how people respond to it, because it's not gonna be the same place, not gonna be Seattle, it's not gonna be the same Frasier, it's gonna be the man in his next iteration," he explained. "Hopefully that'll be something people like watching.
"It's still his search for love, for one thing, I think that will always go on for Frasier, but [also] a connection with his son."
Frasier will stream on Paramount+.
