FTSE 100 movers: ABF hit by euro weakness, Centrica lower on election risk

LONDON (ShareCast) - Primark owner Associated British Foods (LSE: ABF.L - news) tripped lower after Swiss bank Credit Suisse (LSE: 0QP5.L - news) lowered its earnings forecasts for the company citing euro weakness. "AB Foods doesn't usually feature in our regular FX updates on the sector, but given the severity of the euro's demise it should. For ABF the impacts are more transactional than translational," said the bank. UK utility giant Centrica (LSE: CNA.L - news) had its rating cut to 'sell' from 'hold' by Deutsche Bank (LSE: 0H7D.L - news) who cited the upcoming UK elections as a risk. It believes Centrica's shares could be worth at least 20% less under a Labour-led government than a Conservative. The bank also cut its target price on the stock from 280p to 225p.

Shares (Berlin: DI6.BE - news) in UK-listed home improvement retailer Kingfisher (LSE: KGF.L - news) fell after its bid for French rival Mr Bricolage ran into trouble.

UK supermarket leader Tesco (Xetra: 852647 - news) dipped on news it is facing up to the possibility of concerted legal action over its £263m profit mis-statement. Claimants are expected to seek compensation for shareholders on the basis that Tesco allegedly breached the Financial Services and Markets Act by overstating its profits.

Construction and building material company Wolseley (LSE: WOS.L - news) was in the red after first-half profits plunged due to a hefty impairment charge, though the group did raise its dividend after strong growth in the US.
