Gearing Up For World's Biggest Tech Show

Wearable gadgets, 3D printing and drone developments will be this year's biggest draws at the world's biggest electronics show.

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has kicked off in Las Vegas, featuring the unveiling of the latest gadgets plus keynote speeches from the likes of Samsung and Intel (Swiss: INTC.SW - news) .

Drones are expected to feature prominently, with some affordable models already featuring 4K cameras.

Connected technology - which brings new capabilities to everyday objects - will also feature heavily.

Mercedes (Xetra: 710000 - news) has shown off a car that can be parked using a smartwatch app, while a steering wheel cover that can prevent distracted driving will also be demonstrated.

Gadgets could also help us to keep fit; fitness trackers can now monitor our sleep pattern and heart rate, while a new belt will be able to tell you when it's time to lose weight.

The first day features new products from Panasonic, Samsung and mobile processor firm Qualcomm (Swiss: QCOM.SW - news) .

Tuesday sees announcements from Sony (Swiss: SONC.SW - news) and Audi (Other OTC: AUDVF - news) .

Previous products that have debuted at CES include the camcorder in 1981, the Mini Disc in 1993, and the 3D TV in 2009.
