Pop legend George Michael has been commemorated with a huge mural that has been installed in the area of London where he grew up.

The stunning nine-metre high artwork in Kingsbury celebrates the life and career of the much-loved singer, who died in 2016 at the age of 53.

Kingsbury, in north west London, is where the Wham! star lived and went to school until he was in his early teens, when he moved to Hertfordshire.

The mural was created by British artist Dawn Mellor and took three weeks, and aims to celebrate the Faith singer as a pioneering cultural and LGBTQ+ figure.

Memorable moments from Michael’s career are highlighted, including a scene of the singer blow drying his hair during Wham!’s 1985 world tour and a silhouette of his figure in the Careless Whisper video.

Mellor also included scenes from the local area and a nod to John Logie Baird, whose experiments in Kingsbury in the 1920s led to the invention of television.

George Michael TV Outside was installed on the side of an estate agent on Kingsbury Road.as part of Brent 2020, London Borough of Culture.

It is one of 23 new commissions as part of the first Brent Biennial.

Michael died on Christmas Day in 2016 and a coroner later determined his death was due to natural causes.
