(Reuters) - European lawmakers from a key committee backed on Wednesday the appointment of Bundesbank Vice President Claudia Buch to become the European Central Bank's top supervior from next year, clearing a major hurdle before a final vote in October.

Lawmakers in the EU Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affiars gave Buch a hard time in a public hearing earlier on Wednesday as they had preferred Spain's Margarita Delgado for the job but their support suggests that all further steps in the appointment process would be a formality.

Buch appointment was supported by 29 lawmakers while 23 opposed her and 2 abstained.
