Goldman Sachs employees could soon be dancing to a new tune, as heir apparent and part-time DJ David Solomon closes in on the top job.

The US investment banking giant is expected to name Solomon as its chief executive early this week, confirming months of speculation over who will succeed long-time incumbent Lloyd Blankfein, according to the New York Times.

Blankfein is widely expected to step down at the end of the year, staying on for a handover period to Solomon. Blankfein all but anointed Solomon as his successor in an interview earlier this year.

Goldman declined to comment.

Solomon, who joined as a partner in 1999, is president and chief operating officer of the bank. He is also known for his occasional moonlighting as a dance DJ, under the moniker DJ D-Sol.

Separately, Goldman staff are preparing to move into its new Farringdon Road UK headquarters next year with all but half a floor of it reportedly occupied, allaying fears over its commitment to the project.
