Good Samaritan Shot Dead Trying To Stop Gunman

A Good Samaritan who confronted a gunman outside a Texas drug store during an alleged domestic dispute has been shot and killed, according to police.

Ricci Bradden, a Private in the 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade stationed at Fort Hood, got into an argument with his wife at a Walgreens store in Arlington, and shot her in the ankle, according to his arrest warrant.

Anthony Antell, a 35-year-old CrossFit instructor known as "TJ", saw the dispute and went to his car to get his gun before confronting the suspect and attempting to make a citizen's arrest.

Bradden, 22, then allegedly got out of his car and fatally shot Mr Antell in the head.

Arlington Police Lieutenant Christopher Cook told WFAA TV: "What was really traumatic, the Good Samaritan's spouse was here and witnessed this.

"I can't imagine going through that."

Mr Antell, who owned the CrossFit Abattoir gym in Arlington, was a father-of-three and had also served as a Marine, KXAS-TV reported.

Bradden left the scene after the alleged shooting, but was later taken into custody in Hill County.

Detectives said he had a phone conversation with an officer in his unit and two other US Army supervisors who advised him to turn himself in.

Lt Cook said: "A family member met with the suspect and took him to a Texas Highway Patrol DPS office in Hill County."

According to his arrest affidavit, Bradden told military supervisors he "slapped the gun out of the male's hand and then he shot the male".

Reverend Marc Lowrance, of United Methodist Church in Arlington, told NBC News: "TJ Antell lost his journey of life very suddenly today in a very heroic act of courage for the well-being of other people.

"He went out of this world on top."

Bradden has been charged with murder and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
