Cosmopolitan cover star Victoria Monét just hit the 2024 Grammys red carpet looking completely incredible in a bronze gown while walking with her daughter Hazel (also a Grammy nominee, NBD) and her boyfriend John Gaines.
ICYMI, Victoria already won multiple Grammys tonight! In total, she was nominated for Record of the Year and Best R&B Song thanks to “On My Mama,” Best R&B Performance thanks to “How Does It Make You Feel,” Best Traditional R&B Performance thanks to “Hollywood,” as well as Best New Artist. Meanwhile, JAGUAR II is nominated for Best R&B album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. Oh, and her daughter Hazel Monét, is the youngest Grammy nominee of all time thanks to being featured on “Hollywood!”
Victoria told Cosmopolitan that she wrote “On My Mama” while “trying to transform my thoughts” during postpartum depression after giving birth to Hazel in 2021. “It’s a crazy juxtaposition: You’re supposed to be in one of the happiest moments of your life, but you’re sad and you can’t really explain it or fake it,” she said. “It feels like a positive affirmation song to me. I want that subconsciously with a lot of my music.”
As for naming her album Jaguar II (and her 2020 EP Jaguar), Victoria told us, “I’ll always be a jaguar. When the jaguar comes into the light and pounces, they have the strongest bite in the jungle. There’s more to do, and I want to make my position consistent. Some people say the second album is harder than the first. The challenges have shifted. I have new prey.”
