‘Great to see’ ‘Starved’ - Sheffield Wednesday celebrate hard-earned point away at toothless Leeds United

Made one really good save to keep the scores level in the first half, and was called into action again early in the second. Things could have gone very differently if not for his interventions.

Wednesday didn’t create too much going forward, but handled the hefty Leeds threat well at the other end and came away with a clean sheet that will delight manager, Xisco.

The Owls hadn’t kept one since his arrival at Hillsborough, so to do so against Daniel Farke’s side on their home turf will certainly be welcomed.

It wasn’t a pretty game, but plenty of the fans who made the trip from Sheffield wouldn’t have been too against taking a point home by 5pm.

Played his part in Wednesday first clean sheet of the season with som confident play on the right side of the Owls defence. Was strong when he had to be, and used the ball pretty well.

Here’s how we rated the Owls stars after their trip to West Yorkshire:

A cornerstone at the back for Wednesday, and misplaced just one pass all game. Won plenty of duels and used his strength well.

Back in a more familiar position at LCB, Famewo was tidy in defence. Strong in the tackle, solid on the ball, and certainly helped secure a vital point for Wednesday.

Battled tirelessly down the right side whilst playing as a wing back, and was a willing runner after being pushed further forward as well. Won lots in the air and could’ve grabbed a goal too.

An incredibly workmanlike performance from the Owls skipper, who bombed about like a man on a mission. Battled hard alongside Byers and made some huge interventions at the back as well as his attempts to get Wednesday up the pitch.

Battled well in the middle of the park, put in a couple of big challenges and had a fair chunk of Wednesday’s possession. Found Windass with one lovely throughball around the hour mark. Great to see him throwing himself into tackles again.

Got caught out defensively a couple of times and had to tread carefully for a large part of the game after his first half yellow card. Didn’t manage to have a huge impact on the game, though.

Worked hard in his role behind the striker, tried to make things happen by drifting in off the left. Had one good chance but saw it well saved by Meslier.

Once more playing in a very different one to what he’s spent his career playing - ran his socks off but didn’t have much joy. Had to do plenty of work defensively.

Was starved of service for so much of the game and didn’t get many decisions go his way from the officials either. Put himself about and had a couple of decent moments up top.

Was brought on to allow Paterson to get further forward, and seemed to handle the Gnonto threat fairly well - which isn’t an easy thing to do. Didn’t really put a foot wrong in his time on the pitch, but maybe got away with a bit of a penalty shout against him.

Came on towards the end of the game to give Wednesday a different kind of threat up front, and though he wasn’t able to change the scoreline there were a couple of bits of decent play at either end of the pitch.
