'Greed' exclusive clip: Steve Coogan tackles tax avoidance in new Michael Winterbottom film

Steve Coogan has teamed up with acclaimed filmmaker Michael Winterbottom for his new film Greed, a searing satire on the life of the ultra-rich.

The Alan Partridge star plays self-made British billionaire Sir Richard McCreadie, whose retail empire is in crisis, after a damaging public inquiry leaves his image tarnished. To save his reputation, he decides to bounce back with a highly publicised and extravagant party celebrating his 60th birthday on the Greek island of Mykonos.

We’re thrilled to share a brand new clip from the film, taken from early in the film, with Coogan’s McCreadie standing up for his right to avoid paying tax.

“Why are you chasing me?” McCreadie asks the head of the inquiry, played by Miles Jupp, imploring them to look into the affairs of U2 frontman Bono, who once espoused for the right to pay less tax.

Coogan and Winterbottom have worked together a number of times in the past, most recently in The Trip To Spain, also starring Rob Brydon, Paul Raymond biopic The Look of Love, and Madchester movie 24 Hour Party People. A fourth series of The Trip, set in Greece, will air on Sky One in 2020.

Greed sees McCreadie’s rise and fall through the eyes of his biographer, Nick (David Mitchell).
