Greg Wise: 'Emma Thompson won't avenge my early Strictly exit'

Greg Wise doesn't think his early exit from Strictly Come Dancing will inspire his wife Emma Thompson to try and improve on his performance.

Greg, 55, and his partner Karen Hauer, 39, left the competition on Sunday night after competing in the dance-off against comedy star Judi Love, 41, and Graziano Di Prima, 27.

However, the Sense and Sensibility actor’s samba to Macarena by Los Del Rio was not enough to prompt judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke to save him.

In an interview with RadioTimes.com, he said that watching him on the show hasn't given Emma the ballroom dancing bug and she won't go on the show to restore family pride.

"I can categorically say no," he revealed. "No, she knows what it entails and I think that it's enough that one of us has done it really. I don't think you'd even get her in for the Christmas special."

The star also explained that his brief stint on the BBC dancing contest was more nerve-wracking for friends and family than it was for himself.

"As I say to any of the chums who come along, it's harder for them than it is for me because they have that anxiety," he revealed. "They have performance anxiety but there's nothing they can do about it. It's a really hard thing to do if your partner or child or parent or whoever is out there doing it, it's terribly anxious-making."

Following Greg and Karen's exit, 11 pairs are now left in the competition, as comedian Robert Webb withdrew due to ill health last week. Those still competing for the Glitterball trophy include Olympic swimming sensation Adam Peaty and BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker.
