Greta Thunberg will be the subject of a new TV series made by BBC Studios it has been announced.

The environmental activist has become a household name in the past 18 months as he has undertaken a mission to combat climate change and make the matter a pressing issue world leaders need to address.

And now BBC Studios will produce the programme, which it is believed will chronicle the 17-year-old’s campaigning and journey into adulthood.

The project was announced at BBC Studio’s Showcase event today (10 February).

Rob Liddell, BBC Studios Executive Producer said: “Climate change is probably the most important issue of our lives so it feels timely to make an authoritative series that explores the facts and science behind this complex subject.

“To be able to do this with Greta is an extraordinary privilege, getting an inside view on what it’s like being a global icon and one of the most famous faces on the planet.”

Details such as the title and the number of episodes have yet to be announced, though it is known the Thunberg series will be made by BBC Studios’ award-winning science unit.

Scientists across the world agree that global temperature rise needs to be limited to 1.5 degrees, to give us the best possible chance of avoiding irreversible chain reactions.

The series will see these experts lay out the science that lies beneath this unanimous belief.

It is also promised viewers will se Thunberg’s “quiet moments” preparing for speeches and reflecting on life as a teenager, as well as charting her own journey into adulthood as she continues to be confronted by the real world consequences of inaction.

Despite many praising the Swedish teenager’s activism, there have been many who’ve criticised Thunberg, including US president Donald Trump, TV presenter Piers Morgan and music star Meat Loaf.
