Yahoo Finance Grocery store surveillance camera captures mom accidentally taking another mom’s toddler: ‘Holy moly’
A mom was mortified when she nearly kidnapped another woman’s baby in a grocery store, and TikTok is cracking up — and heaving a sigh of relief!
Posted by the TikTok channel @brotherhq and credited to the Twitter user @HolyCow_Inc, the shocking footage quickly went viral with over 18.6M views!
In the video, we see an unknown mom, wearing blue, standing in a checkout aisle with her presumed toddler in her arms.
The confusion begins when another mom, wearing pink, approaches her and takes the toddler from her arms. While the surveillance footage has no audio, it’s safe to assume the mom in pink said something like, “This is my baby.”
Suddenly, despite the mom in blue wearing a mask, we can see the look of shock on her face — likely experiencing a mixture of horror at nearly kidnapping someone’s child and terror at not knowing where her own child was.
But the mother in pink, smiling, leads the shocked woman down an aisle — where she points to a toddler standing alone. Immediately, the mother in blue scoops up the child and rushes off — undoubtedly embarrassed by the mix-up and relieved to have her own baby in her arms again.
Clearly, this was a simple case of mistaken identity, as both toddlers were wearing pink coats and little white beanies — but it could have been a pretty terrifying situation!
Thankfully, the accidental near-kidnapping was caught before the two moms went home with the wrong babies in tow!

TikTokers were quick to jump into the comments to share their reaction to the heart-pounding footage.
“Omgaaaawd. This is so scary,” one user wrote.
“I am laughing so hard right now,” commented another user.
“She knew [what] was she was doing, trying to exchange her kid on the low,” joked another user.
“They handled it well! I definitely would not have been that calm,” one user wrote.
“Holy moly! Exact same outfit down to the black and white shoes!” gasped one user.
“I’m convinced there’s a certain age where all kids just look the exact same, and no one knows if the kid is theirs or not,” joked another user.
Some TikTokers shared their own similar mix-ups.
“We went to the zoo and walked through a dark part. My husband grabbed a little boy and said, ‘I’m not telling you again, stay with us’… Our son was at the end of the hall. He grabbed some random boy and was so embarrassed to bring him back to his parents,” one user shared.
“This actually happened to me as a child, but I ended up in another family’s van,” shared another user.
While this particular mix-up had a happy ending, and the two mothers had a good laugh over it, the video serves as an important safety lesson — especially in the time of face masks! Always double-check to make sure your child is with you, and never leave them unattended in public.
