'Guardian angel' bartender hands woman secret note to get out of 'creepy' situation: 'This could literally save lives'

A Florida bartender is being praised for the way he handled a creepy patron — all by handing her a secret note.

It all started thanks to a viral Twitter thread posted by Trinity Allie on June 13. She shared a photo of the secret note her bartender passed her after a customer had been harassing her and a friend.

The message read: “If this guy is bothering you, put your ponytail on your other shoulder and I will have him removed. He’s giving me the creeps.”

The bartender eventually took action against the harasser, according to Allie.

“He ended up having to literally yell at the guy. He said, ‘you need to get TF away from these girls who clearly are not interested,’ and the dude said, ‘that was a little aggressive,’ and he said, ‘well ur aggressively hitting on them and you need to leave,'” Allie said in a follow-up tweet.

She added that she made the bartender pose for the photo she shared after the creep left. The Twitter thread went viral with 221,000 likes.

“Yes. We need more people like him,” one person tweeted.

“This could literally save lives,” another said.

“He’s a guardian angel. We need more people like that in the world,” a user added.

A few days later, the bartender identified himself as Max Gutierrez and the bar as No Vacancy in St. Petersburg, Fla.

“Hey, that’s me!” Gutierrez tweeted. “Fun update, the guy I kicked out Sunday night came back to the bar JUST NOW for a beer, told him I wouldn’t serve him.”

Gutierrez also shared more details about the initial incident on Reddit, according to tweeted screenshots from Allie. The bartender explained that he learned how to read people from mentors at his job.

“This guy was giving off very weird vibes for quite a while, [so I] kept an eye on him [and decided to] try to give him a chance, try to let the girls tell him no and leave it at that,” Gutierrez explained on Reddit. “But he didn’t take no for an answer and kept pestering them.”

Gutierrez added that he doesn’t like “yelling at customers or embarrassing people, but I find it’s one of the best ways to handle creeps.”

Allie and Gutierrez later reunited thanks to WFLA to discuss the incident.

“No bartender has ever stepped in for me, and that’s why I thought it was so great and everyone should hear about it,” Allie told WFLA.

Gutierrez was humbled by all of the messages praising his creative tactic.

“I see all the ‘hero bartender’ messages, but I’m not a hero — I was just doing my job,” he told WFLA.
