Gwyneth Paltrow celebrated her 48th birthday by stripping off for a nude photoshoot in the great outdoors.

The Goop entrepreneur decided to ring in her special day by posing completely naked in her garden, with her arms and legs strategically placed to protect her modesty.

Posting a photo on Instagram on 27 September the actor credited one of the products in her Goop range with giving her the confidence to bare all.

“In nothing but my birthday suit today... thank you all so much for the birthday wishes and thank you to Goop‘s insanely amazing brand new body butter for making me think I can still get my kit off. #goopgenes,” she wrote.

Unsurprisingly the cheeky picture quickly caught the attention of fans, clocking up more than 800,000 likes within hours and receiving hundreds of messages of support from friends including fellow celebrities.

“Happy Birthday! What a beautiful girl you are and inspiring in so many ways,” wrote Friends star Courteney Cox.

“So happy you were born! What an inspired life you’ve made for yourself. And the GP train keeps going! Love ya, chica!” commented actor Matthew Morrison.

While supermodel Naomi Campbell added: “Happy Birthday @gwynethpaltrow, you got it! Flaunt it.”

But despite all the love for the nude image, it seems not everyone was won over by the social media share.

Paltrow’s 15-year-old daughter Apple had something of an embarrassed teenage daughter response, writing simply “MOM” in the comments.

Apple’s comment quickly racked up more than 10,000 likes and prompted her mum to respond with three cry-laugh emojis, suggesting she’s not too concerned by her daughter’s embarrassment.

This isn’t the first time Apple has shared her thoughts on her mother’s social media posts.

Last year when Paltrow posted a mother-daughter selfie on Instagram, the teen was less than impressed.

“Mom we have discussed this,” she commented under the snap. “You may not post anything without my consent.”

“You can’t even see your face!” Paltrow fired back.

Paltrow has been open about her experience of growing older and recently talked about her experiences of perimenopause, describing the period as “taxing”.

In an interview with W Magazine, Paltrow said she believes menopause needs a rebrand, saying it is a “very natural part of our process as women”.

Paltrow isn’t the only celebrity to have marked a birthday with a saucy snap.

Earlier this year Elizabeth Hurley marked her 55th birthday by posing naked in a bubble bath.

And last year Salma Hayek proved she wasn’t one bit bothered about turning another year older, as she celebrated her 53rd birthday by sharing a photo of herself in a bikini with the world.

“Yes, tomorrow I turn 53. So!?” she captioned the image, hinting that for her age is merely a number as far as body confidence is concerned.
