If You Had Bought Mimecast (NASDAQ:MIME) Shares Three Years Ago You'd Have Made 188%
Mimecast Limited (NASDAQ:MIME) shareholders might be concerned after seeing the share price drop 11% in the last month. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last three years have been very strong. In fact, the share price is up a full 188% compared to three years ago. It's not uncommon to see a share price retrace a bit, after a big gain. The fundamental business performance will ultimately dictate whether the top is in, or if this is a stellar buying opportunity.

Because Mimecast is loss-making, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one does expect good top-line growth.
Mimecast's revenue trended up 30% each year over three years. That's much better than most loss-making companies. Along the way, the share price gained 42% per year, a solid pop by our standards. This suggests the market has recognized the progress the business has made, at least to a significant degree. Nonetheless, we'd say Mimecast is still worth investigating - successful businesses can often keep growing for long periods.
