Halle Bailey, an R&B artist who comprises one half of sister duo Chloe x Halle, will debut as Princess Ariel in the long-awaited live-action adaptation of Disney’s The Little Mermaid on May 26, 2023.

Upon seeing the 22-year-old hit the red carpet on Sunday night, TikTok couldn’t contain its excitement — and rightfully so. Bailey donned a custom tulle creation by Dolce & Gabbana. The aqua gown, TikTokers note, is a chic nod to Princess Ariel.

Simone Umba (@simplysimone) posted an emotional reaction to Bailey’s stunning Dolby Theatre arrival.

“Y’all, I don’t give a f*** if y’all call me dramatic for crying. When I saw this, I was in shock. Y’all, this is our princess,” she says before adding, “Y’all, this is Ariel’s color.”

“She may be Ariel but ma’am this is a verified CINDERELLA MOMENT”

Commenters were quick to reciprocate Simone’s excitement over Bailey’s gown of choice.

“She does look like a princess,” someone said.

“Now I’m crying too!!!!!! She is so beautiful,” another wrote.

“She may be Ariel but ma’am this is a verified CINDERELLA MOMENT,” a user replied.

Courtney (@colormecourtney) had a similar reaction to Bailey’s breathtaking red carpet moment.

“Do you see what I see? Our queen, our princess, our Ariel, Halle Bailey, dressed up as Disney Parks Ariel at the Oscars,” she says. “Her dress is so stunning my jaw was completely on the floor… and that she gave us a nod to like the mermaid shell bra in the bust area… could we have asked for a more perfect princess moment on the Oscars? No we could not.”

“She’s just the perfect Ariel.”

“The trailer hit tonight! I’m geeked for it!!!!” one user said in response to The Little Mermaid trailer that premiered during the Oscars.

“her hair was so pretty too she’s literally so stunning,” another commented.

“She’s just the perfect Ariel,” someone replied.

Halle Bailey’s viral red carpet moment solidifies the fact that she’s in her Disney Princess era — and we couldn’t be more on board with it.
