Former Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy has advised Harry Kane to move abroad to a European giant ahead of Manchester United next summer.
Kane has had a tremendous career at Spurs, but with it looking unlikely that they will win a trophy any time soon, this could be his last chance to join a top European club.
Overall, the 29-year-old has scored an incredible 267 goals in 416 appearances across all competitions for the London club, making him Tottenham’s all-time leading goal scorer ahead of Jimmy Greaves.
Kane is also closing in on becoming the Premier League’s record scorer, currently 60 goals behind Alan Shearer and just eight behind Wayne Rooney.
Everyone knows just how prolific he can be, so it’s unsurprising to see Manchester United heavily interested in signing the Englishman.
Erik ten Hag’s side though also strongly considering a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who will cost a huge sum, so it’s likely to be a case of one or the other for the Red Devils.
However, Bayern Munich have also registered an interest in a summer move for Kane. As such, there could end up being a bidding war for his services if he fails to agree a new deal.
With 17 goals in 22 league appearances for Tottenham this season, there is no doubting that Kane can still perform at the highest level.
Danny Murphy advises Harry Kane to head to Germany
Writing for the Daily Mail, Murphy reckons a move to Germany would suit Kane.
“If Bayern Munich come calling for Harry Kane this summer, he should go.
“It would be hugely sad if a player of his quality finished without winning a trophy. It’s something he himself would regret after retirement.”
Kane came close to lifting a trophy with Spurs in 2019, when they reached the Champions League final under Mauricio Pochettino.
He has also just missed out on to winning the League Cup twice, as Tottenham finished as runner-up in the 2014/15 and 2020/21 campaigns.
Murphy added: “That is what you work so hard for and unfortunately Spurs are no nearer giving Kane what he deserves as a world-class striker.
“He turns 30 this summer, it’s getting to that now-or-never stage but it shows how good his form is that one of the biggest clubs in Europe are still interested.
“Going abroad may cost him Alan Shearer’s Premier League goals record but in the grand scheme of things, that shouldn’t put him off.
“In five years, we could be talking about Harry Kane, Champions League winner with multiple Bundesliga titles and cup medals.
“I’m sure Kane would get other offers. Manchester United have been mentioned but he hasn’t got time to be part of a team that is building.
“If he was going to leave Spurs, it would be primarily to win trophies from the get-go which would make Bayern his best option.”
