Harry Maguire injury: ‘Good news’ for Manchester United captain with Europa League Final target

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has a chance of being fit for the Europa League Final despite suffering ankle ligament damage.

Maguire has been an ever-present for United since signing from Leicester City in 2019, playing every minute of Premier League football since his big-money move to Old Trafford.

However, that impressive run came to a halt during United’s 3-1 comeback win at Aston Villa on Sunday, when Maguire went off with an ankle problem.

That injury means Maguire misses his first United League game since joining the club, with his former side Leicester heading to Old Trafford on Tuesday evening - and the defender was spotted in the stands on crutches to watch the game.

While Maguire is unlikely to be fit for Thursday’s clash against Liverpool, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that the centre-back avoided any broken bones and will “hopefully” be ready for the Europa League final against Granada on May 23.

Solskjaer told MUTV: “Obviously we’ve had scans and the good news is there’s no fracture.

“(It is) ligament damage and hopefully we’ll see him again this season. Hopefully ready for the (Europa League) final.”
