Yahoo Finance HC fines Juhi Chawla Rs 20 lakh, dismisses her 'publicity' 5G petition
The Delhi High Court Friday dismissed with a cost of Rs 20 lakh actress Juhi Chawla's lawsuit challenging 5G wireless network technology and said the plea was defective and filed for gaining publicity.
Justice J R Midha said the plaintiffs — Chawla and two others — have abused and misused the process of law and wasted the court's time.
The court said the suit was filed to gain publicity which was clear as Chawla circulated the video conferencing link of the hearing on her social media account which resulted in repeated interruptions by unknown persons.
The court also issued contempt notices against unknown persons and asked the Delhi Police to identify them.
After pronouncement of order, Chawla's counsel sought a stay on the verdict which was outrightly denied by the court.
On Wednesday, while the hearing was on, a man started singing some of the hit songs of the actress’ movies and caused repeated interruptions in the virtual proceedings.
On the directions of Justice J R Midha, who was hearing the case, the person was repeatedly removed from the hearing, but he kept on joining and started singing till the time the proceedings were locked.
The man, who kept changing his names every time he logged it, started with Chawla’s ‘Ghoonghat ki aad mein dilbar ka didaar adhura’ song from her block buster movie 'Hum hai rahi pyar ke'.
He then sang from her another hit film Naajayaz ‘Lal lal hoton pe gori kiska naam hai… Juhi Chawla’ and then ‘Meri banno ki aayegi baraat ke dhol bajao ji’ from the movie Aaina after which he was removed and the proceedings were locked.
Earlier, the actor had filed a case against the implementation of 5G services in India. Juhi, also an environmental activist, expressed concern over the 'harmful and injurious' effects of the radiation. Now, hours before the verdict, she has clarified that her agenda is not to ban 5G as wrongly reported by some news publications.
"There seems to be a misconception that our present suit, filed in the Delhi High Court, is against 5G technology. We wish to clarify and reiterate that we are not against 5G. However, we seek from the Government and authorities to certify to us and to the public at large, that 5G technology is safe to humankind, every type of living organism, flora and fauna". - Juhi Chawla, Actor, in a statement.
