Helios Towers'(LON:HTWS) Share Price Is Down 4.7% Over The Past Year.
While not a mind-blowing move, it is good to see that the Helios Towers plc (LON:HTWS) share price has gained 12% in the last three months. But that is minimal compensation for the share price under-performance over the last year. After all, the share price is down 4.7% in the last year, significantly under-performing the market.

Because Helios Towers made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one does expect good top-line growth.
In the last twelve months, Helios Towers increased its revenue by 6.7%. While that may seem decent it isn't great considering the company is still making a loss. Given this lacklustre revenue growth, the share price drop of 4.7% seems pretty appropriate. It's important not to lose sight of the fact that profitless companies must grow. So remember, if you buy a profitless company then you risk being a profitless investor.

A Different Perspective
Given that the market gained 26% in the last year, Helios Towers shareholders might be miffed that they lost 4.7%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. It's great to see a nice little 12% rebound in the last three months. This could just be a bounce because the selling was too aggressive, but fingers crossed it's the start of a new trend.
