Though the future of Henry Cavill's Superman currently remains uncertain, the British actor is prepped to play the Man of Steel again, he's said.

In conversation with Sir Patrick Stewart for Variety magazine's Actors on Actors series, Cavill laid out his affection for the character, when asked by the X-Men star if he feels that the role has defined future roles for him.

“I’ve always been a fan of Superman. With a character like that, you carry the mantle with you off set. And it becomes part of your public representation,” he said.

“When you meet children, children don’t necessarily see me as Henry Cavill, but they might see Superman, and there’s a responsibility which comes with that.

“Because it’s such a wonderful character, it’s actually a responsibility I’m happy to have, and I hope that I get to play more of Superman in years to come.”

Currently, whether Cavill will play Superman again for DC is not known for sure.

Though he impressed in Zack Snyder's reboot Man of Steel in 2013, his following appearances in the DCEU were somewhat tarnished.

Critics and fans rounded on the dour tone of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, ditto its follow up Justice League, leaving the potential for Cavill to play the role again somewhat up in the air.

However, Snyder is now poised to release his own cut of Justice League, which feels like something of a reset to the franchise.

It also emerged in May that Cavill has been in talks to reprise the role, though as yet there are no details on how this might manifest itself.

In the meantime, Cavill is playing Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix series of The Witcher, and will play Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes, currently in post-production.
