If you were crossing your fingers for discounts on the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer this Black Friday, you would have, once again, been disappointed when shopping directly from the brand or any of the big retailers. The cult dryer has stubbornly remained at full price ever since its launch in 2016.
However, this year eBay has come to our aid, putting out its own Cyber Monday Dyson hairdryer deal. You can now get a Supersonic for just £189.99 – if you shop refurbished. This equates to £110 off the full price and 20% (an extra £50 off) the usual refurb cost. We've never seen reductions on this dryer before, ever, so we're very happy to spot this. These are the kinds of Black Friday deals we were hoping for in 2021.
What does refurbished mean?
We're big proponents of shopping refurbished at Good Housekeeping. Our team at the GHI says that this label doesn't mean you're buying used or second hand items. In fact, when it comes to tech, 'refurbished' simply means that the device has been returned to the manufacturer or retailer by the original customer.
From the Institute: "This could be because something is missing, such as a remote control, or there was a fault with the item. In some cases, the customer may have changed their mind or decided it doesn’t fit with their lifestyle or home."
Once it's been sent back, the retailers will check and test the returned items before listing them on their website. In cases where the device was faulty, the parts are replaced. For example, a smartphone may have a new battery or case, while a laptop may have been given a new hard drive – then it's ready to be resold with a great discount.
