Here’s how every day can be a good hair day

Use these simple tips to make your hair behave so that it looks salon-fresh all day long.

Go easy on hair styling products
It might be easier to use gels, sprays, or mousses with mega or high hold levels, but these weigh down your hair and make it look limp. The build-up of these products can also make your hair look greasy. Not the look you’re going for. If you really must use hair styling products, opt for those with a light-to-medium hold level; they will do the job just as well without weighing your hair down.

Know when to start the hair dryer
How you blow dry your hair is as important as when you start. Let your hair dry to at least 70 – 80 per cent before you turn on the blow dryer. Your hair is more fragile and weak when it’s wet. Tugging at your hair with a brush at this time will damage/break the strands. And if you start blow drying when your air wet, then you’ll zap all the moisture and body out of it. So timing is key for soft volume hair.

Deep-clean regularly
Regular use of hair styling products, swimming often, or washing your hair with hard water can lead to product build-up, which can damage your scalp and hair. It’s therefore important to incorporate a deep cleaning session into your hair care regimen. Use a clarifying shampoo once a week to get rid of product build-up and boost your hair healthy.

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise
Treat your hair just like you would your skin, by giving it the right amount of moisture so that it stays shiny and bouncy. Hair that lacks moisture will become dry and brittle, leading to hair breakage as well as split end. These troubles get magnified if you’re the sort to regularly heat-style your hair. Moisturise your hair more by using hydrating hair products, like leave-in conditioners, hair oil treatments, and hair masks. You need products that hydrate each hair strand so your mane is shiny and silky.

Avoid products with alcohol
Pay attention to the list of ingredients in your hair products. Steer clear of products that contain alcohol as it is considered a harsh ingredient that gives a false impression of shine, but in the long run ends up damaging your hair. Instead look for products that have natural hydrating ingredients like coconut oil, aloe vera, and vitamin E.

Don’t go to bed with wet hair
As we’ve mentioned earlier, wet hair tends to be more vulnerable, so you need to take care of it especially after a wash. So going to bed with wet is something to be avoided. Tossing and turning could tug your hair, stretching your hair shaft. If you’re the sort who ties it into a bun before hitting the sack, stop. The hair tie will pinch and tug at your hair over the course of the night, bringing it to the point where it’s falling out. And if you must sleep with wet hair, then buy yourself a silk pillowcase to create less drag and minimise the frizz.
