From House Beautiful

The Bothy in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, has a surprising claim to fame – it was used as a film set for one of The Wombles’ music videos.

In the 1990s, a small chalk mine in the property’s garden featured as the Wombles' warren in the video, based on the series of children’s novels from the late 60s. The property’s owner was in fact friends with the producers of the show, which is how their garden became famous.

Before this, The Bothy was originally built as the gardener’s cottage of Hazelwood House then owned by Henry Lord Rokeby. The Bothy was sympathetically extended in 1988 to become a lovely secluded family home, albeit with a little restoration work needed.

Out of the home’s four bedrooms, three are double and two have ensuite bathrooms. There are two reception rooms, an office and boot room, and a living room with a feature log burner.

The property's interior design is somewhat unique, with contrasting colours, patterns and textures throughout.

Extending to around one acre, the grounds of The Bothy are completely private and offer woodland, a wildlife garden, lawns, a water feature and trees.

Also included is a four-car garage and a six-car carport, previously used by the owners as part of a Morgan Cars workshop, restoring classic cars.

Sue Trybus, an associate director at Savills Rickmansworth, said of the sale: ‘The Bothy is a truly enchanting property within its own secret garden. It offers complete privacy and seclusion and the house is ideally designed for family life.

‘The property has been in the same family for over three decades, but would now benefit from some updating. The new owners will inherit a much-loved family home, as well as the added bonus of the Wombles' warren.

‘A fabulous home offering great potential with a magical garden and also garaging with potential for a business!’
