Hockey world somehow sees two goalie goals in same night

·1-min read
What's better than a goalie goal? Two goalie goals.
What's better than a goalie goal? Two goalie goals.

A goal scored by a hockey goaltender is already a rarity that is celebrated whenever it happens, but what about two goalie goals in the same night?

On Friday, netminder Antoine Coulombe of the QMJHL’s Shawinigan Cataractes was the first one to claim the likely once-in-a-lifetime milestone, clinching the 7-4 win with a full-length sling down the rink.

Coulombe is the first goalie in Cataractes history to score a goal and he took full advantage of an opportunity he might not ever get again in his career with a full stick-riding celebration.

If there is such a thing as a classic goal scored by a goaltender, that would be it – and really the only possible way, unless they were deciding to pull a Patrick Roy.

Just minutes later and almost 2,000 miles away, without any connection except their mutual position, Colin Delia of the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs was fortunate enough to get that single tick on his stat sheet.

While this is certainly not as impressive, a goal is a goal. Since own goals aren’t a thing in hockey, the Texas Stars player sending a puck down into his own net hundreds of feet away, after Delia made a previous save, qualifies the goaltender for a goal scored.

Two memorable nights for two players that got to share the spotlight for the goalie-goal-loving community.
