Holby City spoilers follow.

Holby City has suggested that Jac Naylor could be in for further heartbreak as her love interest Kian Madani's drugs secret is discovered by Jac's old friend Clayton Pearson, who is currently a patient at the hospital.

As Clayton's (Robert Lonsdale) health deteriorated tonight (November 24), Kian (Ramin Karimloo) was determined to help Jac (Rosie Marcel) discover what was wrong with him. To help ease the load for Jac, Kian brought in the new F1s to try to get to the bottom of what was wrong with Clayton – even bribing them with money if they discovered the problem.

Determined to keep Kian at a distance, Jac gave him short shrift for getting involved. But what Jac hadn't realised is that Kian's drug addiction relapse was getting worse.

Kian popped into an office to take another pill while on shift and was caught in the act by Adrian 'Fletch' Fletcher (Alex Walkinshaw), who was suspicious but accepted Kian's explanation that he had been prescribed antidepressants.

He advised Kian to "make time" to speak to the hospital's new psychiatric nurse Lucky Simpson (Vineeta Rishi), which he reluctantly did.

Things looked to be improving for Kian after new F1 Jeong-Soo Han (Chan Woo Lim) discovered that Clayton's deteriorating condition had been caused by an abuse of diet pills, meaning that Jac could provide him the correct treatment.

While Clayton recovered, Jac thanked Kian for "being the surgeon I want by my side – for putting up with me".

After Clayton regained consciousness, he confessed to Jac that he has romantic feelings for her but Jac made it clear that she is happily seeing somebody else.

Although she didn't name Kian, she said that the man she is seeing "would never do anything to hurt me", adding: "Right now, that is exactly what I need."

Unaware of Jac's renewed confidence in their romance, Kian was later seen trying to conceal himself in a dark room of the hospital and declining a phone call, before taking more drugs.

But he was unaware that Clayton, sitting up in his hospital bed, had seen everything. With Clayton having made his intentions toward Jac clear, could he use this new information to drive a wedge between Jac and Kian?

Holby City continues next Tuesday (December 1) at 7.50pm on BBC One.
