Hollyoaks' Lucy-Jo Hudson opens up over filming "tough" Juliet scenes

Hollyoaks star Lucy-Jo Hudson is taking those emotional Juliet Nightingale scenes all in her stride.

She plays Juliet's mum Donna-Marie Quinn in the soap, with her daughter (portrayed by Niamh Blackshaw) having been diagnosed with terminal Hodgkin lymphoma just this week.

Explaining how she copes with the filming of this difficult subject matter, Hudson recently told Inside Soap: "It's tough! I've done emotional storylines on other jobs, so that's helped me with this one.

"The crew are amazing, there has to be a lot of quiet and stillness to help you get into the emotion of the scene. When action is called, I just go for it!"

As far as decompressing goes, she's aided by simply going home to her "crazy kids".

"[I] get stuck straight into the 'mum' role, cooking tea, washing, cleaning and bedtime routines! A good gin and tonic when the kids are asleep helps..."

Following Juliet's devastating news, Hollyoaks unveiled a brand-new social media campaign titled 'Ode To My Juliet' this week, fronted by actress Blackshaw and inviting fans to "share their own cancer stories, memories, and bereavement journeys".

In the promotional clip, Blackshaw teased: "Juliet's Hodgkin lymphoma is now terminal. Over the next few weeks, you'll see Juliet tell loved ones, live out her last days, and then she is going to die.

"In a way to commemorate Juliet as a character, and to do something positive, we want to come together and share stories of loved ones who may have been touched by cancer."

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
