Hollyoaks' Shaq Qureshi arrested after confession

The following article contains discussion of sexual assault that some readers may find upsetting.

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Shaq Qureshi has been arrested after confessing to forging Ali Shahzad's letter in Hollyoaks.

In recent weeks, Shaq, Verity Hutchinson and Sami Maalik created a letter that would supposedly prove to police Ali raped Misbah because they were worried he could otherwise get let off.

Their plan was seemingly working in Wednesday's (December 1) first-look episode as DS Cohen put Ali in the hot seat over the letter, and though he denied writing it, he was clearly worried about its contents.

Ali then directly confronted the Maaliks with his theory it had been forged, but his allegations forced Shaq and Sami to admit what they'd done to Misbah.

Misbah was distraught over the damage they'd done to her case. She was determined to tell DS Cohen the truth, only for Verity to intervene with a plea on behalf of the family.

"Shaq and Sami could go to jail, so could I! Is that what you want?" Verity desperately asked.

Misbah countered that if the investigation were left to authorities, Ali could still get convicted — but Verity insisted the forgery was worth it if "it stops one more misogynistic monster from thinking he's untouchable".

At the same time, Shaq was in the police station confessing to DS Cohen that he'd been the one to forge the letter to get Ali "locked up".

"The evidence is fake. It was all my idea," he admitted.

DS Cohen revealed she had no choice but to arrest Shaq on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in Ali's sexual assault investigation.

This storyline is set to enter a new phase in upcoming episodes when Theresa McQueen gets involved in efforts to get revenge against Ali once he's attacked for evading justice by a member of the Maalik family.

Hollyoaks airs new episodes from Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look screenings at 7pm on E4. Selected omnibus episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video.
