Home and Away star Matt Evans talks how long he'll stay on the show

Home and Away star Matt Evans has opened up about how long he will stay on the soap after commenting on how "sad" it is when fellow co-stars leave the show.

Evans has played Theo Poulos on the soap since 2021. Since then, there have been some big-name departures on the show, including Sam Frost (Jasmine), Lukas Radovich (Ryder), Rob Kipa-Williams (Ari) and Harley Bonner (Logan), who all left last year.

In a new interview with Yahoo!, Evans assured fans that they shouldn't expect him to be following suit and leaving the show any time soon.

"I’ve still got a while. I’ve got a while in me for sure. And as long as... I can be able to navigate this show and putting music out then I’m happy," Evans said, acknowledging his parallel career as a music artist.

"So there’s no definite, definitive answer on that. I’m just kind of playing it by ear. I’m enjoying it."

However, although he is staying for now, 2023 sees other high-profile departures with Sophie Dillman and Patrick O'Connor, who play Ziggy and Dean, Bella actress Courtney Miller and Kawakawa Fox-Reo, who plays Nikau, all saying goodbye to Summer Bay.

"There’s so many people who would come and go on the show, so it’s kind of like high school. If I was to finish [on the show], it would be like when you finish high school and you’ve got to say goodbye to everyone," Evans said.

"That part is really sad, but then also, when someone new comes it’s really exciting. It’s an emotional rollercoaster, with people coming and going, and [you’ve] just gotta keep navigating your relationships around that."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6.30pm on 5STAR and the show also streams on My5.

In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 and streams on 7plus.

Selected classic episodes are available via Prime Video in the UK.
