Home and Away's Mackenzie to suffer collapse drama

Home and Away spoilers follow.

Home and Away star Emily Weir has revealed that Mackenzie Booth is set to suffer another shock collapse in the wake of her ectopic pregnancy.

Australian viewers saw the character fall to the ground in pain last week, which led to her finding out that one of her fallopian tubes ruptured. After undergoing emergency surgery, Mackenzie was informed that her unborn baby was tragically unable to be saved, which left her feeling "numb to the world".

Now, Weir has opened up about the negative repercussions of Mackenzie insisting on going back to work too soon and trying to "distract herself from her trauma" – something that leads to her second hospital visit in as many weeks.

"She's in so much physical and emotional pain that she's checked out," the actress explained to TV Week. "After losing a baby and her partner all at once, she believes if she can keep busy, and her mind off things, she might have a chance of feeling better."

Mackenzie's precarious plan hits a snag however, when ex-boyfriend Ari Parata (Rob Kipa-Williams) rocks up to Salt with his former partner Mia Anderson (Anna Samson), and she's left feeling completely rattled and confused.

"[She] feels abandoned by Ari. Being in the same room as [him] is way too painful for her," continued Weir, recalling how Mackenzie reacts to the sight of him by sneaking downstairs at the restaurant. While in the basement though, she gets sudden cramps and is knocked off her feet.

Fortunately, Ziggy (Sophie Dillman) and Tane (Ethan Browne) discover her and rush her to A&E. Ari visits her later on, and the pair share a sad embrace as Mackenzie is told by doctors that she "hasn't had enough rest" in recent weeks.

"Moving around and being on her feet has inflamed her healing and causes a complication," Weir concluded.

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia).
