Honduras coffee exports up 12% after delayed shipments cleared

TEGUCIGALPA, April 1 (Reuters) - Coffee exports from Honduras in March rose 12% compared with the same month the previous year, an export leader said on Monday, after coffee beans which had been set to ship out in February were delayed until the following month.

Shipments from Central America's largest coffee exporting nation reached 709,782.16 60-kilo bags in March compared with 633,984.23 for the same month of the 2022/23 season, according to the Honduran Coffee Institute (IHCAFE).

"The (boost) in exports is due to sales schedules and delays in shipments from February which did not leave until March," said Dagoberto Suazo, who sits on the IHCAFE board. "These delays are normal."

Honduras' cumulative exports from October to March totaled 1,936,281.23 60-kilo bags, 4% fewer than the 2,011,059.52 in the same period a year earlier.

Honduras, which exports Arabica coffee, expects to ship out some 4,983,333.33 60-kilo bags over 2023/24. (Reporting by Gustavo Palencia; Editing by Jacqueline Wong)
