Honkai Star Rail's PS5 launch is coming in October

Honkai Star Rail is finally coming to PS5 next month on October 11.

Earlier today, as part of the latest PlayStation State of Play showcase, developer Hoyoverse unveiled the long-awaited release date for its still-fairly-new JRPG. Those who want to get in on the action on Sony's new-gen console don't have long to wait, because it's coming right on the heels of the game's next major patch.

If you're not familiar with Honkai Star Rail, it takes up many of the same tendencies as its predecessors, Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd. The free-to-play turn-based JRPG functions as a gacha game when it comes to characters and weapons, meaning you primarily unlock new units via in-game 'pulls' accrued over time through events and login bonuses, which you then spend via rotating banner events.

The PS5 version is expected to debut with all the updates already in place on PC and mobile given the cross-platform nature of the game. Given its October 11 launch, the PS5 version will arrive just as a new character banner begins – seemingly for the new unit Jingliu. More than anything, it'll be nice to have a proper couch-and-controller option for Star Rail, as the game's PC controller support can be a little wonky.

The announcement probably shouldn't come as a huge surprise given that we already knew Honkai Star Rail's PS5 port was coming before the end of the year. Still, it's nice to know that after the technical test last month, PS5 players can finally delve into the full game very soon.

You can head over to our PlayStation State of Play September 2023 live coverage report for a full recap of everything announced at the new presentation.
