Stanley Dock's imposing Victorian buildings have acted as backdrops in blockbusters including Sherlock Holmes and Captain America: The First Avenger. Now a conservation area, the dock’s being turned into a new leisure destination. The North Warehouse has been converted into the luxurious Titanic Hotel, and Tobacco Warehouse – once the biggest of its kind in the world – comprises 550 larger-than-average one, two and three-bedroom loft-style apartments. Exposed brick walls, iron columns, beamed ceilings and other industrial elements have been retained. Find out more from Tobaccowarehouse.co.uk.

2. Hornsey Town Hall, Crouch End, London N8, from £494,950

Commissioned in the early 1930s, this Grade II* listed building is one of Britain’s earliest examples of Modernist architecture. When no longer required for local government purposes, it hosted live performances – including Queen’s first gig in 1971 – then fell into disrepair before being rescued by developer Far East Consortium. Today it’s a new community hub with 146 Art Deco-inspired new homes, a soon-to-open hotel and a restored town hall used for arts, entertainment, culture and co-working. Over the years it’s been a busy film location, most notably for Bohemian Rhapsody, released in 2018 – nearly half a century after Queen first played there. Visit Hornsey-townhall.co.uk.

Robin Williams was living in this Italian Renaissance-style mansion with his second wife Marsha and their two children when he won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his part in the 1997 film, Good Will Hunting. During his lifetime he also received six Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and five Grammys, though with 20 rooms to choose from, finding space for a trophy shelf wouldn’t have been a problem. The couple extensively remodelled the 1926-built house, which enjoys fabulous views over the Golden Gate Bridge, the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay.
