How to live off a student loan

Watch: How to live off a student loan

For some, student maintenance loans are enough to live off, and for others they barely cover the rent, so it’s important to manage your money well at university.

Many students find that getting a part-time job can make a huge difference to their quality of life at university, but there are other things you can do to make your money go further as a student.

According to the National Student Accommodation Survey, in 2020, 51% of students were struggling to keep up with rent, with 36% saying it negatively affected their studying.

Living off a student loan can be extremely challenging, even with a job or parents to help out financially, so cutting unnecessary expense is a key priority when on a student budget.
