ICC T20 World Cup 2021: “Not An Upset” Twitter Reacts As Scotland Stun Bangladesh In Qualifier Game

Scotland win against Bangladesh

Scotland beat Bangladesh in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 qualifier encounter in Oman. The Scotts beat the Tigers by six runs as they successfully defended a total of 140/9. This loss puts Bangladesh in a must-win situation in their remaining games if they want to qualify for the Super 12 round. Shakib Al Hasan entered into the records books on a day when his side went down fighting.

Batting first Scotland scored 140/9 led by all-rounder Chris Greaves’ 45 off 28 balls. Contributions from George Munsey (29) at the top and Mark Watt down the bottom (29) ensured that the side reached a par total. Shakib took 2/17 with the ball for Bangladesh and with the wicket of Michael Alexander Leask for a duck became the highest wicket-taker in T20Is (108).

However, the Tigers brought out a terrible performance with the ball in quest of their target of 141. They lost wickets at regular intervals and at the end fell short by six runs as they reached 134/7 in their 20 overs.

Greaves after his effort with the bat came back to 2/19 with the ball. A combined effort from the bowlers ensured that they win their first game in the qualifiers and make a bold statement. Both teams have two more games in the qualifiers to make it to the Super 12 stage.

Meanwhile, Twitter created a lot of noise on Scotland’s big win over the formidable Bangladesh side.

Here are some of the best tweets on Scotland’s Win

“Credit to the Bangladesh bowlers, they showed high class skills. They did blow us away a bit. But you can’t count any team out in T20s. We had a lot of belief in our batting depth, we do feel we can all hit the ball a long way. Greaves and Watt showed it. It was tricky, there was plenty of dew. I felt our fielders tackled it well apart from myself, all credit to them. It (lower order fightback) just shows that we can win a game from any position. We fought back with some great knocks and this is a great confidence builder” said Scotland skipper Kyle Coetzer on his side’s win.

“When you can’t chase 140, there needs to be a look-in, need to correct the mistakes. We still need to be positive and figure out where we made mistakes, and not try to repeat them. Beautiful wicket to bat on, fantastic ground and crowd, we need to pull our socks up and play better cricket” said a dejected Mahmudullah on his side’s loss.
