Ina Garten’s Favorite Butter Brand Was Just Named the Best in the World

And it's only $3.99.

We don’t know how you feel, but, to us, butter is one of the best things ever invented. Along with salt and pepper, butter is easily one of the most used items in our kitchen. We don’t know where we would be without butter in our baked goods, coating our shrimp scampi, in our favorite pasta sauces, or, literally, just on a piece of toast.

As huge fans of the delicious fat, we think it’s safe to say that not all butter is created equal—and everyone likely has their go-to brands. We know we have our favorites.

But one brand was just named the best butter in the world, according to the 2024 World Champion Cheese Contest—and it might not be the butter you're expecting.

Cabot Creamery’s Extra Creamy Sea Salted Butter was just named the “Best of Class” amongst all salted butters. This butter is made with 83% butterfat and is considered a “premium” butter in Cabot’s line. However, even with the “premium” name, Cabot’s Extra Creamy Butter only costs $3.99 for eight ounces.

Cabot’s butter beat out dozens of other butters from around the world. Most notably, however, it outranked France’s Isigny Sainte Mère Salted Butter by half a point, which goes to show you don’t have to spend $7 on butter to get the best.

We’ve always known that Cabot Creamery was a top-tier choice. Not only did its Unsalted Butter place in our butter taste test, but also Ina Garten has sung the same butter’s praises in the past. If its Unsalted Butter has piqued our interest this much, we’re sure the Extra Creamy Butter is just as good—if not better. Why? The butterfat content.

What Makes Cabot's Extra Creamy Butter So Good?

We know that most American butters have a butterfat content of about 80% since that’s the national minimum. That’s why Irish butters and other European butters are so beloved—because they have a higher butter content, which gives the butter a richer taste and a softer texture.

Despite the fact that Cabot Creamery is based in Vermont, its Extra Creamy Butter clocks in at an 83% butterfat content. So, it’s even higher than Kerrygold, Plugrá, and Isigny Sainte Mère.

It might not sound like a lot, but that small amount of extra butterfat can lend itself to the “extra creamy” texture of the butter—plus, a rich, delicious flavor.

So, next time you’re in the market for a butter restock, you might want to give this world-class butter a try. It might not be your usual go-to, but there’s always room for a new favorite in the fridge.
