Have Insiders Been Buying Regional REIT Limited (LON:RGL) Shares?

We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So before you buy or sell Regional REIT Limited (LON:RGL), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.

What Is Insider Selling?

It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.

We don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Regional REIT

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Non-Executive Director Daniel J. Taylor for UK£383k worth of shares, at about UK£1.07 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of UK£1.18. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider purchases were made at close to current prices.

Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid UK£633k for 595.38k shares. But insiders sold 38700 shares worth UK£40k. Overall, Regional REIT insiders were net buyers last year.
