Investors in Beyond (NYSE:BYON) have seen impressive returns of 110% over the past five years

When you buy shares in a company, it's worth keeping in mind the possibility that it could fail, and you could lose your money. But on the bright side, if you buy shares in a high quality company at the right price, you can gain well over 100%. One great example is Beyond, Inc. (NYSE:BYON) which saw its share price drive 110% higher over five years. It's also up 27% in about a month.

So let's investigate and see if the longer term performance of the company has been in line with the underlying business' progress.

Because Beyond made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. As you can imagine, fast revenue growth, when maintained, often leads to fast profit growth.

In the last 5 years Beyond saw its revenue grow at 2.1% per year. That's not a very high growth rate considering the bottom line. In comparison, the share price rise of 16% per year over the last half a decade is pretty impressive. Shareholders should be pretty happy with that, although interested investors might want to examine the financial data more closely to see if the gains are really justified. Some might suggest that the sentiment around the stock is rather positive.

It's probably worth noting we've seen significant insider buying in the last quarter, which we consider a positive. That said, we think earnings and revenue growth trends are even more important factors to consider. A Different Perspective

It's nice to see that Beyond shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 79% over the last year. That gain is better than the annual TSR over five years, which is 16%. Therefore it seems like sentiment around the company has been positive lately. In the best case scenario, this may hint at some real business momentum, implying that now could be a great time to delve deeper.
