Ireland extends VAT cut for hospitality sector

Outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic in Dublin

DUBLIN (Reuters) - The Irish government on Tuesday said it had agreed to extend by six months a reduced 9% VAT rate for the hospitality sector, a measure introduced to help businesses impacted by the COVID pandemic.

The rate, which applies to restaurants, tourist accommodation, cinemas and theatres, will revert to its normal level of 13.5% at the start of March 2023, the government said in a statement.

The measures will cost around 250 million euros ($263.65 million), it added.
