Ireland sets 'knowledge box' tax rate at 6.25 percent

DUBLIN, Oct (HKSE: 3366-OL.HK - news) 13 (Reuters) - Ireland (Other OTC: IRLD - news) is to introduce a new tax rate of 6.25 percent for some intellectual property holdings under a new patent-based tax regime aimed at multinationals, Finance Minister Michael Noonan said on Tuesday.

"This puts Ireland in a unique position to offer long-term certainty to innovative industries planning their research and development investments," Noonan said.

Tax experts have said the potential scope of the planned "knowledge development box" have been limited by new international tax guidelines set down by the OECD. (Reporting by Conor Humphries; Editing by Pravin Char)
