Irish COVID-19 jobless claims fall below 100,000 for first time

Commuters make their way into work in the morning in the financial district of Dublin

DUBLIN (Reuters) - The number of people in Ireland claiming temporary coronavirus-related jobless benefits fell below 100,000 for the first time on Monday, falling 4% to 97,130, government data showed.

At the peak of Ireland's lockdown in February, almost 480,000 were in receipt of the payment.

The government is due to drop almost all of its remaining COVID-19 restrictions at the end of next week.
